Gold Spike’s Makeover Updates Downtown Las Vegas

If you live in Vegas or have spent any time off the Strip, you know that you’re always within easy walking distance of a slot machine. Gambling can become a full-time hobby that you can do nearly anywhere, the airport, the cheap casinos on the outskirts of the city and even at 7-Eleven stores. In a city that’s way oversaturated with gaming, Gold Spike didn’t want to be that anymore.

Gold Spike’s Upgrades

Under new ownership, Gold Spike in downtown Las Vegas transformed from smoke swirling, cheap hotel with slots to a “cool, trendy hangout.” While the hotel and its insides received a complete makeover, the style remains a vintage, mod 1960s and 1970s feel. The slot machines were hauled out, and deep cleaning removed the smell and residue from decades of cigarette smoke.

Today, Gold Spike houses a new generation of customers, ones that come for a work and play environment. In the day, feel free to use their wi-fi to get some work done, or hold a business meeting. Grab a bite at the Gold Spike diner and sip on cold beverage from the Carnival Bar.

When the sun goes down, a DJ plays music in The Living Room while outside, people are playing life-sized chess, Jenga and Connect Four. Beer pong, twister, soccer and cornhole are also available in this new smoke-free work by day, party by night play zone.

If you missed the news about MTV’s Real World shoot of its 31st season at Gold Spike, now is the time to start watching, as episodes are now being released. You can catch a glimpse of the seventh-floor suite made for the show.

Gold Spike’s sister hotel, Oasis at Gold Spike, is located next door, and combined the hotels share 86 rooms and a lot of adventure. “Times have changed and the Downtown Project and Tony have a different vision,” Crandall said. “It’s cool that the name is still alive and they are taking it into a fun, hipper crowd in there. It’s good, it’s breathing life,” said Michael Crandall, senior vice president of the Siegel Group.

If you’re planning a vacation to Downtown Las Vegas, stop by the Gold Spike and play a round of cornhole. If you love the environment, stay at Oasis at Gold Spike, take a dip in the pool, and experience the new Gold Spike. Book a room for your next vacation on our website.
