What Makes Downtown Las Vegas Container Park So Unique?

How about for starters, the 40 foot tall, metal sculpted praying mantis that shoots fire from it antennae? Unique enough for you? This will let you know you’ve officially arrived at Downtown Las Vegas Container Park. Oh, and as the name implies, this not so ordinary shopping mall is constructed of, you guessed it, shipping containers . . . like the ones you see on cargo ships or being hauled by semi-trucks and trailers. So on with the tour of the park.

Not only do these containers form the park perimeter, some are stacked on top of one another while others are situated end-to-end. While it may seem crazy, it works for this unique setting located 1 or 2 blocks east of the Fremont Street Experience’s pedestrian mall. Each container houses a shop and is open on one side. Interestingly enough, there is an assortment of boutiques, coffee shops, fine arts stores, restaurants, and more. You’ll even find a barber shop built inside of an old train caboose.

During the summer, there are free concerts and film fests in the evenings. Plus, there is plenty of interesting stuff for children, such as the giant tree house in the center of the park which features lots of passages, slides, and stairs to keep them entertained. The park is located on the corner of Seventh and Fremont Streets and is one of the more recent additions to the Downtown Las Vegas expansion and revitalization project.

Container Park is comprised of 43 different-sized, repurposed shipping containers, but there are also 41 Xtreme Cubes supplied by Las Vegas’ Xtreme Manufacturing. This community, entertainment, and shopping area contains a number of dining and retail options including accessories outfitters, art galleries, jerky and kettle corn retailers, and a leather designer.

Furthermore, there’s an outdoor performance area that features everything from boot camp fitness classes to classic rock and folk music to motivational speakers. Just be aware that due to the fact that businesses are inside these shipping containers, space is limited. Additionally, dining tables are located outdoors, thereby creating an open-air shopping format. You can sit and relax with family members or friends and enjoy a beer or glass of wine while children can play in a safe and secure environment.

A visit to Downtown Las Vegas Container Park will keep you busy for an entire day and possibly into the evening as well.
